A YMCA INITIATIVE

Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out and grow. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the body and mind ends with the school year. In fact, research shows that kids are prone to gain weight and fall behind in studies. Healthy Kids Day® is a national YMCA initiative to address critical gaps in health and education. It is the nation’s largest health day for children. The event is designed to encourage parents and children to stay active and healthy all summer long. Traditionally, when the school year ends, children gain body mass index (BMI) nearly twice as fast as they do during the school year, primarily due to what they are eating and reduced physical activity.
